Me and my girlfriend were driving through downtown when we came into contact with smoke so we pulled over and got out of the car 3 blocks away from where the protest was. As soon as we exited our vehicle the cops were already there shooting more gas canisters and other projectiles. There was only a few people around nobody was rioting only running from the police. So as I turn look for my girlfriend and realize that we had got separated from running away from the tear gas so I started to look for her.
As I walk down the side walk looking for her I pass by entire group of police in full riot gear at least 10 officers. I even walk around a squad car nothing is said to me but I make eye contact with several officers as I continue to walk pass them. I get about 20 feet in front of them then have to wipe my eyes because they are burning from the gas. As I stand there by myself a officer who refused to give me his name and badge number charged me and tackled me from behind leaving scrapes on my right leg and both legs ended up bruising on my shins. My back hurt for several days and I had a headache that lasted for a week no matter what kind of aspirin I took it would not go away. And they proceeded to arrest wouldn’t tell me why I was being arrested only that I was told to leave the area which they never said and several officers had the opportunity to tell me when I walked past them.
So I was detained and while I’m holding I started having some sort of an attack. I got very light headed I was pouring sweat I was dry heaving had to sit down so that I didn’t pass out. As I lay there begging the officer for a drink of water he just ignored me until I had spit on the ground from dry heaving then he yelled at me and told me not to spit on the ground. I told him I feel like I’m dying but he did not care. Thankfully i started to come out of the attack about 15-20 mins later then was taken into lockup and wasn’t booked in till about 5 hrs later then sent to a holding cell which the phone did not work and the jail command officers were notified and said they would look into it. I was being held on a 72hr hold and had no phone to use. The the next day we were moved to a felony block which had phones and we were told they did not work and were also told that command said we had our opportunity to use the phone the night before even though they knew the phones did not work.
Eventually we were able to use the phones after we went to court the following day then I wasn’t released until 10pm when I went to court around 3 pm and my bond had been paid since around 1pm. I was charged with 2 misdemeanors and had a $1000 bond on 1 charge and a o.r. On the other I asked for time to speak with an attorney for I am innocent and justice needs to be served.
