I was at the protest with my 3 children. It was around 6:30 pm. The crowd was peacefully protesting, and I took this as an opportunity to educate my young children. About 45 minutes in and prior to the end of the protest which was scheduled to end at 8. Thankfully we were headed home (we live downtown) when we saw the tear gas behind us. I found myself explaining police brutality and why this was happening. It was difficult to find words due to it being so wrong. The point is that it wasn’t necessary. A protest should make people uncomfortable, but that is no excuse for law enforcement to cause harm to others.
I live downtown. I was in my home and I could hear vandalism below my windows. When I looked out to see what was going on, the people there were driving cars with confederate flags. They were the ones doing the vandalism.
