It’s clear there are no reprecussions for SWAT and FWPD’s actions

I was teargassed Friday while I was standing directly in front of SWAT. There was no warning and zero communication on their end before they threw teargas cannisters into the crowd (multiple times). This continued well into that night. Late Friday night SWAT was standing on sidewalks and streets surrounding the courthouse, again no warning or communication from them regarding teargas. They also stood idly by as a handful of people broke windows. They were close enough to know what was happening and chose to do nothing knowing that it would incite more rioting and cause the media to make it look like the protests had gotten violent.
I managed to not get directly teargassed on Saturday, however I did walk through areas that had previously gotten teargassed. SWAT was intentionally boxing groups of people in who were trying to leave the area.
On Sunday I walked to the MLK bridge as that’s where a large group of peaceful protesters were, and FWPD was out talking with them in the streets. I personally talked to one cop who gave vague and neutral answers, even when directly asked if she reported aggressive behavior she saw. I stood on the hill by the bridge while SWAT rolled up for no reason shortly after it had gotten dark and FWPD had left. Luckily peaceful protesters were able to “police” themselves and one another and SWAT left. I have also seen news reporters get hit by tear gas and told to leave the scene. I have avoided getting as actively involved as I was the first weekend not because I’m scared I’ll be teargassed again but because it’s clear there are no reprecussions for SWAT and FWPD’s actions. The mayor and several city councilpeople stand behind aggresive use of force and have continously lied about the events that have been taking place here in Fort Wayne.
